P&G HireVue Interview: Questions and Process

Procter & Gamble's interview step is behavioral and often virtual, with a recorded video round reported for some roles. Process, questions and prep.

HireVue Practice Team · Sep 20, 2026 · 7 min read

The Procter & Gamble interview is built on behavioral questions, and for some roles it includes a recorded video step: a question appears on screen and the camera captures your answer with no live interviewer in the call. P&G’s official hiring page describes an application, online assessments and interviews, and says interviews may run virtually, but it does not name HireVue as a universal platform. Candidate reports and at least one preparation publisher describe prerecorded digital interviews on some routes, so treat this guide as preparation for the content, not a promise about vendor, question count or timing. Your invitation email is the authority on the format you will actually get.

TL;DR

  • P&G’s official sequence is application, online assessments, interviews, then offer. Assessments can include the Peak Performance Assessment and are mandatory where assigned.
  • A recorded one-way video interview is reported for some roles, but P&G does not officially name HireVue. Follow your invitation, not assumptions.
  • P&G says it uses behavioral-based interviews and publishes example questions covering conflict, difficult projects, creating something new and working with others.
  • Official guidance says most live interviews run 45 to 60 minutes. No official recorded-answer timer is published, so practise to a two-minute target.
  • Interviewers are reported to probe your personal action, the alternative you rejected and what you would change. Prepare separate stories for leadership, innovation, influence and constraints.
  • P&G notes that some Sales candidates may be invited to an online virtual job interview measuring work style, experience and problem-solving.

Where a video interview fits at P&G

P&G publishes a four-step hiring sequence on its careers site. The video step, where it exists, sits inside the interviews stage.

Stage What happens What it decides
Application CV, education details and a skills questionnaire on the P&G careers portal Eligibility and basics
Online assessments One or more tests, including the Peak Performance Assessment and an interactive cognitive assessment; 20 to 60 minutes, some sections timed Whether your application moves forward; for most roles results gate progression automatically
Interviews One-on-one or panel, virtual or in person, behavioral questions; a recorded video interview is reported for some roles Fit for the role and P&G’s values
Offer Decision, then the P&G+Me onboarding programme Final outcome

The assessments are their own discipline and outside this article’s scope. Two official details still matter for interview prep: for most roles, assessment results automatically decide whether your application proceeds, and P&G expects you to complete assessments and interviews on your own, without real-time help from other people or AI tools.

On format, the official page says interviews may be conducted virtually, online or by phone, or in person depending on your country, and that most last around 45 to 60 minutes. It does not name a video platform. CareerTestPrep’s P&G guide describes a “Digital Interview” of “pre-recorded video (HireVue or P&G portal)” lasting roughly 30 to 40 minutes on some routes; treat that as a third-party report, not P&G policy. We found no P&G-branded HireVue tenant at pg.hirevue.com. If the one-way format itself is new to you, read how a one-way HireVue interview actually works so nothing on screen is a surprise.

The questions P&G asks

P&G is unusually open about its interview style. The hiring page states it uses behavioral-based interviews and publishes example questions:

  • “What would you do if you had a conflict with a team member?”
  • “If you were given a difficult project, how would you ensure its success?”
  • “Give an example of a time when you created something new.”
  • “Tell me about a time when you worked with others.”

Those four are P&G’s own words. Around them, candidate reports and prep publishers cluster P&G prompts on the company’s official values: integrity, leadership, ownership, passion for winning and trust, plus stated principles like consumer focus and innovation. Reported themes include:

  • Leadership to a demanding result: a group you led, the standard you set, what changed for the people involved.
  • Innovation from an unmet need: the consumer insight, the test you ran, the result.
  • Influence without authority: the stakeholders, the evidence you used, the commitment you secured.
  • Collaboration and conflict: working with others and handling disagreement.
  • Ownership under constraints: a difficult project delivered with limited time, budget or information.

CareerTestPrep frames evaluation around P&G “Success Drivers” such as mental agility, collaboration and influencing, and leadership; treat that framework as reported coaching language, not official P&G wording. Six or seven distinct stories mapped across these themes cover nearly everything reported. The wider bank lives in common HireVue interview questions, and the STAR answer shape keeps each story coherent under a time limit.

Build answers that survive probing

P&G interviewers are reported to probe beneath the headline of a story: why you chose that action, which alternative you rejected and what you would change next time. A polished surface answer unravels when those details are missing, so build each story with the follow-up already answered:

  • Situation: name the consumer, team or business need.
  • Task: the result you personally owned.
  • Action: your decisions in first person, then who you enabled and what they contributed.
  • Result: a number, plus why your action caused it.

The sample below is a representative coaching answer built for a two-minute slot. It is not a claimed P&G prompt or a real candidate transcript.

“Give an example of a time when you created something new.”

“Students in my quantitative-methods course kept missing office hours because they could not tell which tutor covered which topic. I interviewed ten classmates and found the real need was not more hours; it was choosing the right session before travelling to campus. I built a one-page booking view organised by topic, added three example questions under each category and tested the wording with the tutors. After two weeks, misdirected bookings fell from about a quarter of requests to two in forty, and the tutors adopted the page for the next term. It taught me to define innovation by the user’s changed behaviour, not the technical complexity of the fix, and to involve the people delivering a service before scaling it.”

What makes it work: an unmet need named in the user’s terms, a test before scaling, a number at the end, and a lesson that shows reflection. It maps to P&G’s stated innovation principle without pretending to be P&G’s own prompt.

A story that reads well on paper can still collapse on a clock, so run each answer under real conditions before the real thing: start a practice interview with P&G selected. Your first interview is free and returns a score and a verdict on the run.

Where P&G video answers come unstuck

  • Using “we” for every action, so whoever reviews the recording cannot locate your contribution.
  • Calling a solution innovative without showing the unmet need or the test behind it.
  • Assuming HireVue rules: question counts, timers and retake policies are employer settings, and P&G publishes none for a recorded step. Read your invitation and the on-screen instructions.
  • A “why P&G” answer that would work identically for Unilever, Nestlé or L’Oréal. Name something specific: a brand, a career area, or the build-from-within culture candidates describe.
  • Reading from notes. It is audible in your pace and visible in your eyes.
  • Confusing the steps. The Sales Virtual Job Preview is an official assessment, not a video interview; prepare for the step your invitation actually describes.

Most of these are format failures rather than content failures, the same patterns covered in common one-way video interview mistakes.

Straight answers on the P&G video round

Does P&G use HireVue?

Not confirmed universally. Recorded digital interviews are reported for some roles, and one prep publisher names HireVue or P&G’s own portal, but P&G’s current hiring page does not name a vendor. Follow your invitation.

Is the P&G interview live or recorded?

Both exist in candidate reports. Officially, interviews may be virtual or in person, one-on-one or panel, typically 45 to 60 minutes. A recorded step, where assigned, is one-way: prompts on screen, no live interviewer. For how prep differs between the two, see HireVue vs live interview.

How long are the video answers?

No official recorded-answer timer is published. Practise to a two-minute target and compress on the day if your window is shorter; a clipped ending reads worse than a short answer.

How do I prepare for follow-up probing?

Know your exact action, the alternative you rejected, who you influenced, the measure and what you would change. If you cannot answer those questions about a story, choose a different story.
